Three Weeks Left and Nothing is Decided

March 17, 2016

There’s half the league tied for second place and only three games left, but still nothing has been decided.  Boston remains the front-runner to clinch the first spot, but even they could not qualify; similarly, if Rochester wins out and gets a little help from Hamilton and Long Island they could be in it after all.

Thursday night the bottom two teams duke it out for a spot in the playoffs. If Rochester loses to Long Island, their playoff hopes are over. For Long Island, this game could be their last chance to fight back into contention for a wild card spot. The teams have met once before this season and Long Island came out on top 13-9. Rochester has won their last two, both against #2 Denver. Long Island won big last week, 15-8 over the Bayhawks.

This weekend the Bayhawks and Nationals also square off. A win for either team would all but guarantee a spot in the playoffs; conversely, the loser might start to feel the pressure of the Lizards and Rattlers on their heels. The Bayhawks have won the past two matchups, 14-10 in week two but only 12-11 two weeks ago.

Both the Cannons and Outlaws can clinch a spot this week. If the Cannons or the Rattlers win their game, the Cannons are guaranteed a spot. The Outlaws need a win and a Lizards loss. The Outlaws may be stuck in the 3-way tie for second place, but they are 2-0 against the only team that could knock them out, the Lizards. A win this weekend along with a Lizards loss would mean that even if the Lizards win their last two and the Outlaws lose the rest of theirs, the teams would have tying records and the Outlaws would get the playoff spot.
