Week 7 game preview: Denver vs. Long Island

March 18, 2016

This game is going to be all about possessions. He who can win the ball, and value their opportunity with the rock, shall become the victor.

Every faceoff in lacrosse is a special moment. Tonight's match-up between Denver Outlaw Andrew Hennessy and Long Island Lizard Peter Vlahakis (try saying that name five times fast) will ultimately dictate which team wins a war over time of possession. No pressure or anything Henny.

Time of possession and ground balls ultimately lead to offensive opportunities. The act of winning a faceoff unfortunately does not always directly yield these opportunities. Look for Long Island to utilize rookie standout defenseman Brian Karalunas (don't bother trying to say that one in rapid fashion, not worth it, yet oddly entertaining if you get it) to ensure Hennessy does not have an easy time translating faceoff wins into solid Outlaw possessions. His rapid stick checks and tenacious work ethic on ground balls equal a coaching nightmare. Even if the ball is won cleanly, this hawk is looking to disrupt what should be a positive situation.

Enjoy tonight's action and the beautiful weather the right way: by joining your Denver Outlaws at INVESCO Field at Mile High for a classic rivalry.
