DENVER – The Denver Outlaws , National Development Program (NDP) Lacrosse, Colorado Mammoth, and Genesis Lacrosse Club have announced that the second annual Colin L. Cassidy Memorial Lacrosse Tournament will take place on Sept. 11 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The tournament is open to players of all skill levels and is held in memory of two-and-a-half year old Colin Cassidy. The event features men’s and women's adult divisions, as well as high school and youth teams. The inaugural event, held last September, attracted 72 teams and raised more than $30,000 for the Colin L. Cassidy memorial fund.
“The response we received from everyone that participated last year was overwhelmingly positive,” Brian Tatum, NDP Lacrosse Director of Operations, said. “Everybody left the fields that day thinking that this could become an annual event, and with the blessing of the Cassidy family, we are excited to start down that road.”
The day will include tournament play, appearances from pro lacrosse players, a silent auction and several other special events, which will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
Youth and high school divisions will play a 7-on-7 format, while the adult men's and women's divisions will compete with full teams on a regular sized field. All registration fees will be suggested donations on a per-player basis.
The Colin L. Cassidy Memorial Fund, maintained by the Colorado Lacrosse Foundation, provides college scholarships for male and female lacrosse players.
“The lacrosse community completely embraced our family with love and support when we lost our precious little boy last summer. We thought it would be a wonderful living and lasting tribute to Colin if the money raised could help kids open doors for themselves through education,” Sara Cassidy, Colin’s mother, said.
Teams can register online now at NDPlacrosse.com. For those wishing to volunteer or sponsor the tournament, please email Kurt Dzaman at email@example.com.
