DENVER — The Denver Outlaws have waived Tom Ethington, Alex Hopmann, Brendan Loftus and Shane Walterhoefer, the team announced on Monday. Ethington plans to retire following four MLL seasons and eight NLL seasons. Additionally, Ken Clausen and Ryan Cranston were placed on the physically unable to perform list, while the team placed Eric Martin on the National Lacrosse League inactive list. Ethington spent 13 years (1999-2011) playing lacrosse in the state of Colorado, beginning at the University of Denver in 1999. A team captain for the Pioneers, Ethington was drafted by the NLL’s Colorado Mammoth in the 2002 Entry Draft. He played eight seasons (2003, 05-11) for the Mammoth, totaling 30 points (9 goals, 21 assists) and 323 loose balls in 102 career games. Ethington made his MLL debut with the Outlaws in 2006, after the club selected him in the MLL Supplemental Draft. With Denver, he appeared in 45 games over four seasons (2006-09), registering four goals, one assist and 59 ground balls. He missed the 2010 season due to injury.
