DENVER OUTLAWS REMAIN UNDEFEATED WITH THRILLING 10-9 OVERTIME WIN OVER BOSTON

BOSTONThe Denver Outlaws (3-0) beat the Boston Cannons (1-2) in a thrilling 10-9 overtime victory on a rainy Saturday evening in Boston. The win extended Denver’s regular-season win streak to 23 games.

Chris Bocklet scored the game-winning goal 56 seconds into overtime after Boston tied up the game at 9-9 in the final 30 seconds of regulation. Bocklet’s goal was his second of the night and he was named the Coca-Cola Player of the Game for his three-point (two goals, one assist) performance.

Eric Law started off strong for the Outlaws, recording two of his three goals in the first quarter. Law would finish the night with four points (three goals, one assist) racking up his third hat trick of the season. The first quarter also marked a milestone for faceoff specialist Anthony Kelly, who took the 2,500th faceoff attempt of his career in Denver.  Denver was a perfect 5-of-5 on first-quarter faceoffs.

The Outlaws took a 3-1 lead into the second quarter, marking the first time all season the Outlaws gave up a first-quarter goal. Boston scored three straight goals in the second quarter, before Domenic Sebastiani netted his first goal of the season to even it up at 4-4 with 8.7 seconds left in the first half.

Due to lightning in the area, the teams left the field for nearly 50 minutes before returning to finish the first half. The teams took another one-minute break and then resumed play with the start of the second half.

Boston added two goals in the third quarter and led 6-4 before Law scored an unassisted goal—his third of the night—to cut the Boston lead to 6-5 heading into the fourth quarter.

A total of seven goals—four for Denver and three for Boston—were scored in the fourth quarter. Four different players—John Grant Jr., Jeremy Sieverts, Chris Bocklet, and Drew Snider—scored their first goals of the night to aid the Outlaws fourth-quarter momentum.

Denver took a 9-7 lead, but Boston scored two goals in the last three minutes, tying it up at 9-9 and forcing overtime with Kevin Buchanan’s third goal of the night with just 26 seconds left in regulation.

Bocklet’s shot in the first minute of overtime hit the post and took a bounce right back towards him. He recovered the ball, shot again, and scored the game-winning goal to seal the thrilling victory for the Outlaws.

Goalie Jesse Schwartzman finished the night with the win—his 61st career win—making him the MLL’s all-time winningest goalie.

The game, which lasted two hours, 55 minutes was the ninth longest game in Outlaws history.

The Outlaws return to action next Saturday, May 17 at 7 p.m. MDT when they face the Rochester Rattlers (2-1) at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium.
