ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Denver Outlaws competed in their third consecutive road game this past weekend as they took on the Rochester Rattlers at Sahlen’s Stadium.
Despite both teams desperate for a playoff position and the expectation of a competitive match, Denver earned a sound 17-12 victory. With this win, the Outlaws secure their spot at Championship Weekend and remain tied with the Chesapeake Bayhawks as the number one seed.
Rochester was first to score, with a goal by Steven Boyle minutes before the end of the first quarter. However, Denver quickly retaliated, and scored four goals by halftime to take a 6-3 lead. Through the third and fourth quarters, the Outlaws continued to dominate with the front-line efforts of Mark Matthews and Peet Poillon.
Ultimately, Poillon finished the game with six points, a team high, and the title of Bud Light Player of the Game. Fellow attackmen Brendan Mundorf and Mark Matthews contributed additional three and two points respectively.
By defeating Rochester, Denver clinches a berth at the 2012 MLL Championship Weekend in Boston, Massachusetts. Nevertheless, the Outlaws’ upcoming match versus the Chesapeake Bayhawks on Saturday, August 11 is equally as important. The outcome of this rivalry game will determine the league’s leader—a regular-season honor and a post-season advantage.
