DENVER – Midfielder Jeremy Sieverts was named the MLL Offensive Player of the Week for Week 1 of the 2012 MLL Season, the league announced on Monday.
Sieverts scored four goals, including a pair of two-point markers, and added an assist in the Outlaws’ 21-12 season-opening victory at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte on Saturday, April 28. His four goals tied for the most among all MLL players in Week 1 and he was the only player in the league to score multiple two-point goals.
Sieverts’ seven-point outing tied for seventh in team history for a single game, and he became just the eighth player in franchise history to record multiple two-point goals in the same game.
Sieverts, who was acquired in an offseason trade from the Chesapeake Bayhawks, had tallied just six points in his career prior to Saturday’s seven-point performance. The weekly award is the first in his MLL career.
The award is the 12th Offensive Player of the Week that an Outlaws player has earned in the team’s history and is the 23rd overall player of the week award garnered by an Outlaw (12 Offensive Players of the Week / 8 Defensive Players of the Week / 3 Rookies of the Week).
