Outlaws Add 12 in 2011 MLL Supplemental Draft

The Denver Outlaws Lacrosse Team acquired three players from the 2010 roster and two former Outlaws as part of the 12 round Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Supplemental Draft today. Jim Borrell (Mid, Maryland ‘07), Tom Ethington (Def, Denver ‘02), Shane Walterhoefer (Mid/FO, North Carolina ‘09), Sean McCarthy (Def, Hofstra ‘06) and Ben Brown (Goalie, Whittier ‘09) will once again have a chance to don the Orange and Black in 2011.

“We did very well in this year’s supplemental draft,” said Denver Outlaws Head Coach and General Manager Brian Reese. “We are definitely more athletic at every position now and we’ll have a lot of depth going into training camp.”

In the first round the Outlaws snagged their first pick (third overall), midfielder Terence Kimener from the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. Kimener was named the America East Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Year as a senior in 2008 and was drafted eighth overall in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft (Chicago). In three seasons of MLL play Kimener has recorded 31 goals and 16 assists for 47 points in 30 games.

“Kimener is a great all-around player,” added Reese. “He’s speedy, and we want to play a faster tempo game in 2011 so guys like Terence will be important.”

The Outlaws then selected midfielder Ryan Cranston in the second round. Cranston graduated from the University of Maryland in 2008 and was originally drafted by the San Francisco Dragons that same year (32nd overall pick). The former Lynchburg College standout (NCAA DIII) has seen eight games of action in Major League Lacrosse and contributed eight goals and four assists for 12 points with the Dragons two years ago.

“Ryan has a strong physical presence at 6’5” but one of his biggest strengths is his shot,” mentioned Reese. “He can shoot the ball over 100 miles per hour with both hands, which is rare. Ryan’s great at stretching the defense and hitting those 2-point shots.”
