The Denver Outlaws evened their record at 1-1 on the road against the Boston Cannons today, with a 15-14 decision at Harvard Stadium. A trio of Outlaws contributed the bulk of the offense, with midfielder Brendan Mundorf (UMBC) leading all scorers with five goals. Midfielder Josh Sims (Princeton) was close behind with four goals and attackman Matt Brown (Univ. of Denver) rounded out Denver's leaderboard with a hat trick. Goalie Jesse Schwartzman (Johns Hopkins) also had a big night, stopping 18 of the 31 goals he faced. Cannons attackman Ryan Boyle paced his offense with a hat trick of his own.

Just after the opening face-off the Outlaws came out of the gates firing, with Brown leading the charge. The University of Denver Alum recorded a hat trick in the opening 15 minutes off of three shots. Meanwhile the Cannons were answering back with goals of their own and at the 11:09 mark the score stood at 3-3. The road team finished strong though as Sims and midfielder Greg Downing (Fairfield) each recorded goals withing a minute and a half to give the Outlaws a 5-3 lead going into the break.

In the 2nd quarter both teams battled through half of the quarter before two goals in a five second span from Ryan Boyle and Chris Eck (6:40 and 6:45 respectively) ignited the Cannons faithful and tied the score at 5-5. Denver's Mundorf responded though and kicked off a 3-1 Outlaws run with his unassisted goal at 7:24. As the first half wound down the Orange and Black sat comfortably with a 8-6 advantage.

An early goal in the third (1:58) could have signaled another swing in momentum. However Sims, Mundorf and Downing continued to harass Boston goalie Kip Turner and the trio found the back of the net a combined five times to give Denver a 13-8 lead. During that run, Mundorf recorded three goals. Just when it looked like the Outlaws were going to pull away for an easy win, the Cannon's scored three late goals in the third, including a two-pointer from Matt Casey to end the quarter at 13-11 Denver.

Just 45 seconds into the fourth Boston found the back of the net once again to pull within one. That's when coach Reese decided to take a timeout and talk over things with his troops. Right after the talk, Denver's defensive line answered the call and forced a 60-second shot clock violation. Mundorf then continued his scoring streak and helped put the boys in black up by two (14-12)  with his goal at 2:28. This is when the Cannon's mounted their final assault, going on a 3-1 run to bring the home team back within one with under a minute remaining. Schwartzman came up with a huge save for the Outlaws with 21 seconds remaining though and his players drained the clock with precision to end the game at 15-14.

The Outlaws will now return home to the comfy confines of INVESCO Field when they take on the Washington Bayhawks on Saturday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. (MT).
