This week we have three nights full of MLL action starting Thursday, June 24 at 7:30 p.m. when the Toronto Nationals head to Chesapeake to take on the Bayhawks for the third time this season. On Friday, June 25at 7:30 p.m. the Denver Outlaws and Chicago Machine travel to Rochester, New York, and on Saturday, June 26 at 7 p.m. the Boston Cannons play at home against the Long Island Lizards. Here is all you need to know as we enter week 7.

Week 6 Award Winners:  Denver Outlaws attackman Dan Hardy was named the MLL Offensive Player of the Week. He receives this week’s award for contributing four goals, including a two-pointer, and two assists in the 20-16 Denver victory over the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Hardy scored the first and last goal of the competition, the first with just 3:22 expired on the clock and the last on an empty net two-point shot in the final minute of play. Boston Cannons goaltender Kip Turner was named MLL Defensive Player of the Week for his 21 saves in a 19-11 win over the Chicago Machine. He allowed 10 goals in less than 57 minutes of play, making five saves and allowing only one goal in the third quarter to aid the Cannons in increasing their lead from 9-8 at halftime to 16-9 after three quarters. Toronto goaltender Scott Rodgers earned this week’s MLL Rookie of the Week. In just his second career start, Rodgers made 5 saves in the first half of the 11-9 victory over the Long Island Lizards to secure the Nationals’ first win of the season. Rodgers was the number seven overall pick in the 2010 MLL Draft.

Toronto Posts First Win:  The defending MLL Champs picked up their first win of the 2010 season in week 6, an 11-9 victory over the Long Island Lizards. The previous two weeks the Nationals lost by one goal, but they were able to end their losing streak at five this week thanks in part to a hat-trick performance by Corey Small.

Move Over Bayhawks:  With Chesapeake’s loss to Denver, there’s now a three-way tie for first. The Outlaws managed to topple the Bayhawks in a 20-16 battle on Saturday. The following day, the Boston Cannons and the Chicago Machine duked it out in hopes of securing their fourth wins on the season, the Cannons prevailed, 19-11. Entering week 7, Chesapeake, Denver and Boston are tied at the top of the MLL standings with 4-2 records.

Machine Struggle to Reach 4:  The Chicago Machine haven’t yet secured a fourth win in a season since the team began play in 2006. Chicago registered their third win of 2010 in week 4, but have been unable to reach the elusive fourth win. This week they will try to reach the fourth W again as they take on the Denver Outlaws in Rochester, New York.

Poskay Takes Over:  Boston Cannons’ Matt Poskay takes over as the MLL point leader. He has amassed 28 points with 23 goals, one for two-points, and four assists. Former point leader, Peet Poillon fell to second for the first time this season. The Chesapeake Bayhawks’ midfielder has 26 points with 15 goals, one two-pointer, and 10 assists on the season.

Almost Record Worthy:  Denver’s defenseman Eric Martin had eight penalty minutes the first quarter against Chesapeake this weekend, the MLL record for penalty minutes in a game is nine. Martin had his first penalty called four minutes into the competition, a slashing personal foul good for one minute. By the end of the first quarter, he had seven more penalty minutes racked up from an illegal cross-checking personal foul, unsportsmanlike conduct personal foul, and unsportsmanlike conduct misconduct. The regular season Individual single game record for penalty minutes in a game is held by the Nationals’ Geoff Snider.  On June 4 when Snider posted nine penalty minutes against the Bayhawks.
