DENVER – It was a showdown at Sports Authority Field at Mile High as the two remaining undefeated teams in Major League Lacrosse faced off to see who would maintain their winning streak.
The Outlaws struck first, but it was Boston that pulled away in the second half to improve its record to 4-0 with a 17-10 victory.
Brendan Mundorf returned for the second game of the season, scoring two goals back-to-back in the first quarter, and leading Denver in shots on goal. Justin Pennington was the first man to score in the game, giving the Outlaws the first lead of the night.
At the end of the first quarter, Paul Rabil, the Bud Light Player of the Game scored his first shot of the night, ending the quarter with a 5-3 lead over Denver. Rabil finished with eight points (3 G, 1 2pG, 4 A).
The fight to get the win continued on into the second quarter. Terry Kimener was the only Outlaw to answer back to the four goals scored by the Cannons. Kimener scored two points giving Denver the only two goals they would have as they trailed Boston 9-5 at half.
In the second part of the game, Denver came out with another boom. Josh Sims, scored his first of the night, a shorthanded tally, giving the Outlaws the first goal after half time and a chance to get back into the game. Christian Pastrick scored his second career goal.
Sims might have had the momentum out of the gate, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Boston, which finished the night on a 5-1 run.
The Outlaws return to Denver on Saturday, June 2 to take on the Chesapeake Bayhawks at 7 p.m. MDT at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Tickets are available online or over the phone at 303-OUTLAWS.
