Overland Trailblazers Girls vs. Grandview Wolves Girls
April 18, 2012
Grandview High School
The fifth game of the Outlaws High School Game of the Week is the first girls matchup of the year featuring the Overland Trailblazers and Grandview Wolves. Both teams were looking to pick up an important Centennial League win.
Grandview would start the game out with a ton of offensive pressure resulting in two quick goals. Overland would then have two very good opportunities to score, but Grandview goalie #10 Maggie Corder would come up with the big saves. After that the Trailblazers would only have one more offensive possession and the first half would end with the Wolves leading 14-0. The second half started much like the first half, Grandview scoring two quick goals and Overland getting three offensive possessions, but failing to capitalize. The Wolves defense would stay strong for the rest of the game resulting in a 20-0 shutout win. 13 different Grandview players scored goals, led by three from Katie Sangenberger.
Grandview head coach Kristen Olson would select senior goalie #10 Maggie Corder as Player of the Game for her shutout performance. When speaking about a few highlights from the game Coach Olson said, “It was such a great game and effort by every player. We had multiple scorers, lots of assists, and an awesome overall midfield and defensive showing. Our leaders really stepped up, but everyone made a contribution in this game!” As the season is winding down we asked Coach Olson what the Wolves will take away from this game, “This was a great game for us and a great confidence booster. We were able to execute strategies we have been working on all season, so this will absolutely help us moving forward and prepare for the games we have left in the 2012 season.”
The Denver Outlaws would like to congratulate the Grandview Girls on a great win and wish them success in the future.
