Cherokee Trail Cougars vs. J.K. Mullen Mustangs
April 4, 2012
Brother Bernard Kinneavy de La Salle Stadium
The first of two Denver Outlaws High School Games of the Week is a Centennial League matchup with the Cherokee Trail Cougars and Mullen Mustangs. Mullen ranked 6th in the Denver Post Boys Lacrosse rankings, and was coming off a three game road trip in California where they went 2-1. Cherokee Trail came into the game at 5-1 and looking for their first Centennial League win.
Mullen came out hot and went up 4-0 as the 1st quarter ended. The Cougars answered with two quick goals in the early part of the 2nd quarter to make it 4-2. After the Cherokee Trail goals, the Mustangs dominated possession and grew their lead to 8-3 at halftime. Cherokee Trail came back after half with two more quick goals, but Mullen’s defense stayed strong behind great goaltending. The 4th quarter was filled with missed chances and excellent defense from both teams. Mullen would add another couple of goals and hold on to win 10-5.
The Outlaws send their congratulations to the Mullen Mustangs on the win, and wish them luck for the rest of the season. Clear Creek Gold Diggers vs. Englewood Pirates
April 6, 2012
The Denver Outlaws second High School Game of the Week keeps us in south Denver where the Clear Creek Gold Diggers took on the Englewood Pirates. Clear Creek came down from the mountains, as both teams were looking for the big W in this matchup.
Englewood would jump out fast in the 1st quarter scoring the first two goals of the game. Clear Creek would answer with a goal, but Englewood would score two more quick goals to end the 1st quarter. The second quarter was a back and forth fight between the two teams as the game went in to halftime, the Pirates up 5-3. The second half opened up with a scoring barrage by Englewood, scoring 5 goals in the 3rd quarter. The Pirates did more of the same in the 4th quarter adding another 4 goals to win the game, 14-5. Englewood showed great heart and determination in gaining their first win of the season.
Englewood head coach Mark Baker choose midfielder #25 Josh Kavinsky, as the Player of the Game. When asked to give a highlight of the game Coach Baker had trouble deciding saying, “there was quite a few, all of the hustle stands out, but I think it would have to be #7 Cody Mikulecky and #32 Austin Trail each getting their first goals.” Being the Pirates first win, we asked Coach Baker what goals he has for the rest of the season for this team, “We want to continue to progress as team, continue to win and hopefully get more kids interesting in lacrosse.”
The Denver Outlaws would congratulate the Englewood Pirates on their win and wish them continued success the rest of the season.
