DENVER – Seven Outlaws were named to the 2011 MLL All-Star Game, the league announced on Monday. Denver’s seven All-Stars tie for third most in the league behind Boston and Chesapeake, which each landed eight players on the squad. Denver’s 2011 All-Stars: Eric Martin, Brendan Mundorf, Peet Poillon, Jesse Schwartzman, Max Seibald, Drew Westervelt and Lee Zink.
The 40 players selected to the 2011 MLL All-Star Game will be divided into two teams by fan captains who won the league’s Ultimate Fan Fantasy competition. The All-Star selection event will take place at Harvard Stadium in Boston on Friday, July 8 at 7 p.m. as part of the All-Star Kickoff Party. The selection event is free and open to the public.
The 2011 Sports Authority MLL All-Star Game will be held at Harvard Stadium in Boston at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 9. The annual event is one of MLL’s biggest events of the season and features the popular Bud Light Skills Competition and the all-new Goalie Gauntlet. The All-Star Game will air live on ESPN2.
Martin, who also played in the 2008 All Star Game, has picked up 22 ground balls and scored one goal in five games this season. His 4.4 ground balls per game rank third among league defensemen.
Mundorfleads the league in points (29) and goals (18) and is tied for second in assists (11), while his 15 ground balls lead all attackman. His .409 shooting percentage leads the league (min. 40 shots). This marks Mundorf’s fifth consecutive MLL All-Star selection.
Poillon, who will be playing in his second career MLL All-Star Game (2010), is tied for fifth in the league with 12 goals this season. His .300 shooting percentage is third in the league among players with 40+ shots. Poillon’s 15 total points tie for fifth among midfielders.
Schwartzmanleads all MLL goalies with a 9.57 goals against average and a 4-1 record. His 76 saves and .589 save percentage rank second in the league. He currently ranks second in MLL history with a 12.01 goals against average, fifth in wins (31), tied for seventh in save percentage (.549), eighth in games played (46), eighth in minutes (2,443) and ninth in saves (595).This is Schwartzman’s fourth MLL All-Star selection.
Seibaldearned his third consecutive All-Star bid after missing the first three games of the season due to injury. Since his return, he has scored two goals in each game, including a 2-pointer vs. Long Island (6/25). His .667 shooting percentage leads the league (min. 6 goals). Thus far in 2011, he has totaled six goals with one 2-pointer for seven total points to go with three ground balls.
Westervelt, who received his third straight All-Star selection, leads the league with five man-up goals. His 17 total points (11 G, 6 A) tie for eighth in the MLL and he is tied for the league-lead with two game-winning goals.
Zink, who has lived up to his reputation as one of the league’s best lockdown defenders in 2011, was named to his fourth MLL All-Star Game. He has picked up 11 ground balls in four games this season, while routinely drawing the opponent’s top attackman. This is his fourth MLL All-Star selection.
