Week 2 Preview: Denver at Boston

This weekend prizefight is awesome for a number of reasons:

1          The Denver Outlaws play the Bostons Cannons – for those that don’t know, enough should have already been said. This is a heated matchup that we have not been winning with an overall record of two to the roughriders and five to the pats. That’s not Outlaw ball, that’s in-law ball.

2          Both teams will be shorthanded. The Cannons are shipping five of their best, mainly defensemen and middies, to represent our America in a fight to see which nation produces the best indoor lacrosse team. So far there have been two FIL World Indoor Championships played in 2003 and ‘07. It’s the Olympics of indoor lacrosse; played every four years. Canada has won both. Don’t get cocky; it’s been the Iroquois Nation battling it out with the Great North, falling twice for the silver platter. The United States was left to take the role of the last man standing at the bar, beating Scotland and England respectively for the Bronze beauty. The States has sent a Boxla (read: box lacrosse) hit squad to the Eastern Bloc this year. The Outlaws did their part by providing offensive powerhouses in the form of Mundorf, Westerfelt, McGlone, and Seibald. Ground ball machines and general bash brothers Langtry and Park will also be making noise in the Czech Republic, where the games are being played this year.

3          You get to see what happens when you take away the some of the games best. It means that this is the time that others get to step up or shut up. This weekend marks the start of a professional career for former North Carolina two-time All-American attackman Billy Bitter. His dodging is like his name, sharp. This kid has the ability to not only stand out with his cuts and ability to change directions on a dime, but to manage the attention he warrants by making those around him better. Billy must play this well-balanced game and prove he is like a fine German Riesling from the Mosel region. These wines have an acidity level that cuts through the notorious sweetness of Riesling to create a perfect balance. It’s Bitter’s ability to complement the team around him when defenses start zeroing in on him that can make this kid a cash cow. Look for crafty standout Conner ‘Con Bro’ Martin to enjoy any added attention the Boston defense pays to Bitter. Conner is a guy that has injected his personality, ability, and playing style into the Outlaws organization and Outlaws Nation is better for it.

4          Gut Czech. Great teams find a way to get it done, no matter where, when, or what the circumstances. Roll all the above elements together and the result is a game that has opportunity written al over it as the Denver Outlaws hit the war trail. Provided is the opportunity to prove this team’s depth, heart and desire – an opportunity to chip away at a losing record. Anyway you look at it though, we still have Schwartzman, Fullerton, and Brown minding our nets so we’re good to go.

Outlaws Nation, let’s ride.
