Rebels take home Littleton Cup

The first annual Littleton Cup was played at Invesco Field this weekend. Columbine High School defeated Littleton High School 8-2 in the Championship game, powered by excellent play from standout sophomores Jake Gonzales and Dalton Sierra.

Competing in the two-day tournament were the Chatfield Chargers (4-6), Columbine Rebels (6-6), Heritage Eagles (2-5), and Littleton Lions (9-3). All four teams are vying for playoff spots and looked to boost morale by winning the tournament. The first round of games took place at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, Colo. on Friday.

In the opening round, Columbine defeated Chatfield and Littleton defeated Heritage to set up a championship affair between the Lions and Rebels.

The first half was close as the Rebels held a 3-2 lead going into halftime. The Rebels scored five goals in the second half to close out the game. Columbine’s Gonzales recorded four points including three goals and one assist, while Sierra tallied three points – two goals and one assist.

In the consolation game, Chatfield defeated Heritage 14-10, led by Hayden Kammerzell’s three goals and two assists. Casy Kopchik added six points – four goals and two assists. Michael Schandle posted six goals and one assists for the Eagles.  

Proceeds from ticket sales were donated to the Headstrong Foundation to fight blood cancer.

Mesa State Defeats Adams State College


The Mavericks (5-7, 3-4 WILA) were able to defeat the Grizzlies (1-8, 1-4 WILA) 8-5 in the third game of the tripleheader on Saturday at INVESCO on the strength of hat tricks by freshman Trace Wollner and redshirt freshman Kade Robinson.

Newly hired Outlaws assistant coach Jason Lamb coached his first game at INVESCO as the head coach for Adams State.

The two Maverick players combined for seven points of the team’s 17 points. Wollner added an assist to his three goals which gave him four points in the game.

For Adams State, freshman Anthony Wilner and freshman Michael Santamaria each tallied two goals. Sophomore Kevin Bertrand scored the other goal for the Grizzlies. Betrand finished the game with two assists to accompany to his goal.

The Mavericks and Grizzlies each wrap up their seasons against Colorado College. The Mavericks take the field next on April 30, while the Grizzlies play on May 3.
