Foothills Conference Post Game of the Week
Last Friday’s Game of the Week between Golden and Prairie View High Schools’ Boys Lacrosse teams proved to be a great season opener for both teams. With a 4-10 victory over Prairie View the Demons began their season with a strong team performance. Although Prairie View’s heart is not to be diminished the Thunderhawks held strong and played through until the end. Golden’s coach, Kurt Ohlen, was proud of his team and grateful for the Thunderhawks’ heart as they gave the Demons a fierce competition and an exciting game. Golden Demons’ sophomore Austin Thompson lead the game with three goals to start off the season. Other highlights from the Golden v. Prairie View game were Tom Candlin (who is signed to play for NCAA D2 Adams State next season) with an impressive 83% face off percentage, Zack Jordan with four assists, and Taner Dagdelen with an impressive 69% in goal tend average. Last week’s Player of the Week was Golden High School’s junior attackman Zack Jordan. Zack has been invited to participate in the Young Guns Showdown on on June 11 come the Denver Outlaws’ home game to support him as he competes with the remaining Players of the Week in a trick shot competition during the game.
This week’s Game of the Week will support the Prairie View High School Thunderhawks’ Boys Lacrosse team as they take on Bishop Machebeuf High School on March 19th at 6 p.m. at Prairie View high school.
Northern Conference Week at a Glance
The Mustangs’ Boys Lacrosse team, lead by head coach Peter Devlin hope to bounce back from a loss against Grandview High School last week. Stand out players from the game were, junior goalie Danny Weiss with 17 saves, sophomore Sammy Marquis with two points, and senior Stevie Nash with two assists. Alexander Dawson High School’s next game is against St. Mary’s Colorado Springs on March 31st. Some other games to watch for this season are on April 14th against Prairie View High School and on April 16th against Bishop Machebeuf High School.

The Boulder High School Panthers’ Boys Lacrosse team, lead by Matt Kelley are looking to regain strength this week, after losing their first game to Chaparral High School. Despite Jesse Hartman’s seven saves and two goals made by Griffin Bohm, the Panthers were defeated 15 – 2. The Panthers’ first game this week is on March 14 against last year’s 3rd place state finisher, Colorado Academy. On March 17 the Panthers will play Ponderosa High School, a team that placed No. 23 in the state last year. The panthers’ final game of the week will be on March 19 against Green Mountain High School who is coming off a win from last week against Rangeview High School.

Boulder Valley Warriors Women’s Lacrosse played their first game against Conifer High School Lobos Saturday. The Warriors, lead by Genny Horniing shut out Conifer with a final score of 20-0. This summer, junior Emma Lazaroff was selected as the first All-American honorable mention to come out of the Boulder County program. The Warriors next game is scheduled for March 16 at Regis Jesuit High School, after which the Lobos will head off to Florida to play in a spring break tournament.

The Fairview High School Knights lead by new head coach Mike Flood, are looking to continue their success from last season with returning Boys Lacrosse players Dylan Cook, Jake Hurley, Michael Rhodes and Tuke Turner. Fairview finished the 2010 season 10-6 and placed 18th in the state. The Knights will play their first game of the 2011 season on March 14 at Evergreen High School. Some other games to look for this season are against Fort Collins High School on April 7, April 12 at Monarch High School, and April 14 against Boulder High.

Fort Collins Unified
The Vipers, lead by head coach Carey Smith won their first game last week 10-4 against Mullen High School. The leading scorer for the game was senior Alex Creech with three goals and two assists. Senior Daniel Cadoo had a great performance with one goal and three assists. The Vipers’ senior goalie Ryan LaPlante played a great game with 13 saves. This week the Vipers are playing in a tournament in St. Petersburg, Fla. where they will play March 15 against St. Andrews’ Lacrosse team from Fla., March 16 against Pointe Vedra’s Lacrosse team also from Fla. followed by scrimmage against a team from Austin, Texas on March 17. Some other games to watch for this season from the Vipers are against Fairview High School on April 7, Boulder High on April 18, and April 23 against Chaparral High School.

The Monarch High School Coyotes’ Boys Lacrosse team, lead by Scott Roberts played two games last week. The first was against Cherry Creek High School and the Coyotes lost 13-6 despite senior attack Dylan Ritger’s two goals and one assist, and senior goalie Cody Burgdorff’s 14 saves. The Coyotes also felt a disappointing loss to Rock Canyon High School in a close game that ended 15-14. Dylan Ritger was the team’s top scorer again with five goals and one assist. This week the Coyotes play Regis Jesuit on March 14 and March 18 against Smoky Hill High School. This year’s team has a strong base of juniors that will enable them to grow and improve in the upcoming years.

Game of the Week
This week’s “Game of the Week” will be featuring Prairie View High School Thunderhawks’ Boys Lacrosse as they take on Bishop Machebeuf Buffalos on March 19 at 6 p.m. at Prairie View High School. The Thunderhawks, lead by coach Dan Cota look to come back after a disappointing loss to Golden High School last week. Prairie View’s team motto this year is “one goal, one team” so this year the team is placing strong emphasis on team unity and the fact that they are only as strong as their weakest player. The Thunderhawks’ key players this season are, senior captain Logan Barnes who holds the team accountable, senior Ricky Leos the team motivator, and Austin Hahn who had three steals and picked up the most ground balls in the game against the Demons. Some other Thunderhawks’ games to watch for this week are against Alexander Dawson High School on April 14 and Boulder High on April 12.

This week’s wildcard “Game of the Week” features the Cherokee Trail High School Cougars’ Boys Lacrosse as they take on Chaparral High School on March 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Legacy stadium. Last week the Cougars, lead by Rowan Allen, beat Douglas County High School 15-4 and Castle View High School 12-11. The Cougars’ top three players this season are captain and midfielder Paul Deaderick, midfielders Dylan Duresky and Caleb Hahne, and defenseman and captain Trevor Kurzinger. “Dylan Duresky and Caleb Hahne are both charismatic players that lead the team on and off the field,” said Head Coach Rowan Allen. Cherokee Trail has simplified their practices and are working on perfecting the basics in order to prepare for success in the 2011 season. Other Cougar games to look for this season are on April 8 against Smoky Hill High School and against Overland High School on April 15.
