Unable to find the net for the first eight minutes of the game, Jeremy Sieverts launched an overhand shot from beyond the two-point arc to put Denver on the board.

Sieverts’ downtown bomb was the first of four two-point goals on the night for the Outlaws, tying a franchise record. The team nearly matched its 2011 total of six two-point goals in the 2012 opener alone.

Sieverts blasted another two-point goal past Hounds goalie Adam Ghitelman in the second half, tying the franchise record as the eighth player in team history to score two two-point goals in a game.

Peet Poillon, who earned Player of the Game honors, and Sieverts led the way for Denver, combining for eight goals (three two-pointers) and three assists for a total of 14 points. Poillon and Sieverts each finished with seven points, tying for seventh-most in a single game in club annals.

Terry Kimener and Ryan Hoff each added three goals to give Denver four players with hat tricks in the game.

Charlotte struck first with the expansion franchise’s debut goal coming off the stick of Stephen Berger 1:55 into the opening frame.

The teams would alternate goals throughout the rest of the first frame with a long-distance two-pointer at the end of the quarter from Joe Yevoli giving Denver a 5-3 lead.

Berger picked up a hat trick to open the second quarter before Poillon netted his first of the night on a man-up advantage, assisted by Sieverts.

Charlotte posted back-to-back goals to tie the game 6-6 but the Outlaws rattled off four consecutive goals, including a two-pointer, to end the first half ahead 11-7. Three of those goals came from Hoff, giving him a hat trick in his Outlaws debut.

The Hounds opened the second half with three straight goals of their own to get within one. Denver responded with a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 18-10 and put the game out of reach.

Jovan Miller broke up the run with a goal midway through the fourth quarter, but the Outlaws closed the game with three out of the next four tallies to earn the season-opening 21-12 victory.

The win marks the first for Outlaws Head Coach Jim Stagnitta, who is in his first season with the team.

The Outlaws return to Denver for their home opener on Saturday, May 5 against the Hamilton Nationals at 7 p.m. MDT at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Tickets are available online or over the phone at 303-OUTLAWS.
