COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Outlaws traveled to Columbus, Ohio to face the Machine in the first matchup between the two franchises. The Outlaws came out with the win, defeating Ohio 16-8 to improve to 4-2 on the season.
After Saturday’s win Denver is now 2-0 on the road for the 2012 season and is just one game back of first place in the league.
Denver will face the Ohio Machine once more during the regular season on Independence Day in Denver.
The Outlaws got off to a hot start, keeping Ohio off the scoreboard for the first 18:04 of the game while scoring six goals of their own.
Josh Sims was the first to score, followed by an impressive two-point goal by Jeremy Sieverts. Soon after Brendan Mundorf scored his first goal of the night. Mundorf went on to score a total of three goals with three assists to lead all players with six points in the game.
Chazz Woodson of the Machine scored Ohio’s first goal of the game early in the second quarter.
Casey Cittadino responded with a goal to increase Denver’s lead. Later on in the quarter Steven Holmes and Tom Celentari scored their first goals of the season to push Denver’s halftime lead to 10-2.
Goalie Jesse Schwartzman, who saved 10-of-14 shots in the game held the Machine scoreless in the third quarter as Denver built a 15-2 lead going into the fourth frame.
Rookie attackman Chris Bocklet scored three goals and had one assist in the period, playing a part in each of the Outlaws’ four markers in the third period.
Fellow rookie Drew Snider scored his first career midway through the fourth quarter as the lone Outlaws score in the period.
