DENVER OUTLAWS PROMOTE JON COHEN TO DIRECTOR OF PLAYER PERSONNEL

November 14, 2017

DENVER —The Outlaws announced on Tuesday that Assistant General Manager and Coach Jon Cohen has been promoted to Director of Player Personnel.  He will continue his duties as Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach.

Jon Cohen has been with the Outlaws for 11 seasons with the Outlaws having worked as a visiting team liaison (2007), head equipment manager (2008-10) and assistant general manager/coach (2011-present).

Cohen finished his fourth season as the team’s assistant general manager in 2014, helping lead the team to its first ninth MLL Playoff appearance, fifth MLL Championship appearance, and first MLL Title in franchise history.

He helped lead the 2013 Outlaws to becoming the first team in MLL history to finish a season undefeated. Denver set 21 team records and 10 MLL records in 2013 on its way to become the first team in MLL history and just the fourth team in North American major pro sports to finish a regular season undefeated.

The longest tenured member of the team’s player/coach roster, Cohen has worked under four head coaches in his first eight years with the Outlaws. Denver has made the playoffs 10 out of 11 seasons that Cohen has been on the club’s staff.

Cohen graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 2009, majoring in Hospitality Management. He played lacrosse at UNLV where he was an All American and Academic All-American defender.

Before moving to Colorado, Cohen was a two-time Nevada high school state champion coach at Bishop Gorman in 2008 and 2009. In 2009 he was recognized by US Lacrosse as the Nevada High School Assistant Coach of the Year. He is currently the head coach at Heritage High School in Littleton, Colo.

  STATEMENT FROM JON COHEN

I want to thank Mac Freeman [Outlaws President] and Tony Seaman [Outlaws General Manager] for this opportunity.  It’s a tremendous honor to be a Denver Outlaw.  Being from Colorado, I do not take this opportunity for granted.  I am extremely humbled and grateful to be able to work and learn alongside BJ O’Hara, John Grant Jr. and Tony Seaman every day and I look forward to making the Denver outlaws better in any way I can.”

STATEMENT FROM GENERAL MANAGER TONY SEAMAN

“Jon Cohen has been a key member of the Denver Outlaws staff my tenure as a GM and no one deserves this promotion to Director of Player Personnel more than Jon.  There has been wide spread interest convincing Jon to leave the Outlaws and we are thrilled that he has decided to stay with us in this position.”
