Dan Hardy Wins MLL Offensive Player of the Week

By Chris Day, Major League Lacrosse

Boston, MA - June 21, 2010 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, has announced its weekly award winners following this past weekend's action.  Denver Outlaws attackman Dan Hardy was named the Offensive Player of the Week, Boston Cannons goalie Kip Turner was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Toronto goalie Scott Rodgers was named the Rookie of the Week.

Hardy received the award after tallying seven points in a 20-16 Denver victory over the Chesapeake Bayhawks.  Hardy recorded four goals, including a two-pointer, and two assists in the win.  Hardy scored the game's first goal just over three minutes into the contest and then also added the final points, a two-point goal, on an empty net shot in the final minute of regulation.

"Dan was unbelievable," said Denver Head Coach Brian Reese after the win.  "It seemed like every time he got the ball he made good things happen."

In his second year with the Outlaws out of Syracuse University, Hardy has matched his goal total from last season (8) in five games while improving his shot percentage from .276 to .333. The former Syracuse stand out netted a hat trick May 29 in the Outlaws' home opening win versus the Toronto Nationals.

Turner was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week for his play in a 19-11 Boston win over the Chicago Machine.  The Cannons are now 4-2 and tied for first place in Major League Lacrosse.  Turner led the way for Boston on Sunday with 21 saves, while allowing 10 goals in just under 57 minutes of play.  He was at his best in the third quarter, making five saves and allowing only one goal as the Cannons increased their lead from 9-8 at halftime to 16-9 at the end of 3 quarters.

Making just his second career start, Toronto goalie Scott Rodgers made 5 saves in the first half of an 11-9 victory over the Long Island Lizards for the Nationals' first win of the season.  In his first two career games, the number seven overall pick in the 2010 MLL Draft has allowed 12 goals while making 24 saves.

"It's one of the things where I'm happy that I adjusted to the speed of the game [in the MLL] and the shots well and I didn't get lit up, but we needed a W and I think that's what the main goal is right now," Rodgers said. "You just got to adjust, the games a lot faster, especially with the shot clock," Rodgers said.  "You just got to roll with it."
