Brown Wins Offensive Player of the Week Award

March 18, 2016
By Chris Day, Major League Lacrosse

Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, has announced its weekly award winners following this past weekend's action. Matt Brown, attackman for the Denver Outlaws, was named the Offensive Player of the Week and DJ Driscoll of the Chicago Machine was named the Defensive Player of the Week for their performances over the past weekend.

Brown was honored for his stellar performance against the Long Island Lizards, in which the Outlaws came away with the win, scoring 15 points to the Lizards 10.  Brown was perfect shooting the ball against Long Island, netting five goals on just five shots, which included a power play goal and an assist, for a total of six points.

Known for his accuracy, Brown led all full season starters during the 2009 season with a .511 shooting percentage and has kept pace with last years success with an outstanding .500 shooting percentage this year; tallying 10 goals on 20 shots.  Currently, Brown sits at 11 total points on the year, after his effort against the Lizards last weekend.

The Outlaws selected Brown with the No. 43 overall pick in the 2005 MLL Supplemental Draft. Brown is a graduate of the University of Denver and was First Team All-GWLL in his senior season and also ranks fourth all time for the Pioneers with 113 career goals.

Driscoll earned the defensive honors this week after picking up two assists in a dramatic come from behind win over the Toronto Nationals on Saturday. The two points were Driscoll’s first of the season. Driscoll remains a vacuum in the opening field, having scooped up 14 groundballs through four games this season. With Driscoll’s help, Chicago scored a buzzer beating two-point goal for an unlikely win, dropping Toronto to 0-4 on the season.

Driscoll is playing his fourth year in the league after playing college lacrosse for Notre Dame. Driscoll played various positions during his four years with the Fighting Irish, having scooped up 161 ground balls. With his current success in the league, Driscoll is helping the Machine make a run for the 2010 playoffs with a record of 3-1, tied with the Outlaws and Chesapeake for first place.

Brown and the Outlaws play their second of four straight road games this Saturday, June 12 and look to get their third straight victory of the year as they take on the Boston Cannons, who are two and two on the season. Driscoll and the Chicago Machine will take on the Long Island Lizards Saturday, June 12 in hopes to win their third straight victory as well.
